Cultural Supervision
Quality cultural supervision matters if you are seeking:
- Accountability - prevent harm and be responsible for your professional actions.
- Education: learn how your cultural background influences your practice.
- Support: a safe space to process ethical dilemmas, cultural biases, and the emotional weight of providing care
General cultural supervision - is bi-cultural and bridges Māori and Western frameworks. Suitable for practitioners of different backgrounds to safely and competently practice in Aotearoa.
Puāwananga Kaitiaki Support - for counsellors engaging with NZAC membership. Meet your professional development requirements for Puāwananga Kaitiakitanga competency. Whether you are new to this area of practice or looking to further develop your learning, sessions are informed by the Tihei-wā Mauri Ora framework and are tailored to support meaningful reflection, professional growth, and confidence in meeting NZAC expectations.
Kaupapa Māori supervision - is grounded entirely in Te Ao Māori where practitioners can explore self identity, reduce cultural load and explore deeper indigenious worldviews.
Priced from $160 for individual one hour sessions. Package rates for students working towards registration.

"... admired how he shared his wealth of knowledge with humility and humour. Leon has supported practitioners at all stages of familiarity with Te Ao Māori and he is excellent at creating a relaxed, welcoming environment for exploration and learning . His background in both client-facing work and advisory roles gives him a strong understanding of the needs of both practitioners and organisations ."
Averil Lagerman, Counsellor, MNZAC
"lovely to see you in private practice Leon. You're an amazing cultural supervisor."
Anna K., Chartered Psychologist (BPS) and Psychotherapist (NCIP)
"You have a wonderful gift for being able to weave Māoritanga and western methods together, in a way that is both narrative and practical. Your tākapu framework for the monitor's analysis work breathed new life into a tohu that had been under utilised and is a great example of how you are able to create a narrative that captures everyone's imagination, whilst also providing a very practical tool..."
